  5. Foods

  7. Internet
  8. S*x

  10. Work

There is one more – not normally categorized as an addiction – but I am pretty sure it runs up there with the top 10.

Comfort

Yes! Have you noticed how obsessed we are in our culture about being Comfortable?

How often does comfort win out over reaching potential? Reclining TanDo we get stuck at a level we don’t even want to be at due to “being comfortable”? It is easier to remain “familiar and comfortable” than to challenge and change.

Hard has become a 4 letter word… well it is a 4 letter word, but it has become a bad 4 letter word!

Ever notice, the less discomfort we experience the less tolerance we have for discomfort?

A Second Grade Encounter

Category: Blog | Tags: ,

I have posted before about appreciation here and here. I think we can stand another reminder, don’t you?

Appreciation, validation, recognition – all these words speak of life-giving source. When we receive them they are like breath to us. They create the “great moments” we remember… the ones we like to rehearse.

I want to suggest that it can and should be different. Let’s not settle for less when we can have more.

I am not suggesting strife won’t happen. When people live together there are opportunities for selfishness, pride, offense, and all other kinds of works of the “flesh”.

But just because it comes knocking at the door doesn’t mean we have to take it.

It reminds me of this illustration:

A Lesson In Compassion

Category: Blog | Tags:

Today I want to share about an opportunity to sponsor a child through Compassion International. They have a wonderful Child Sponsorship Program.

haiti33_compassion_wPicture this:
Let’s say you’re a child growing up in poverty. A church nearby your home announces they have partnered with Compassion, and because of this partnership, if you are registered in the program, you will receive benefits that were never before available to you.
Benefits like:

  • educational opportunities
  • health care and health-related instruction
  • nutrition
  • life-skills training

And opportunities to hear about and respond to the Gospel.

And there’s more! You are going to be connected to one sponsor.

It’s all very exciting, so your parents take you to register at the local church.
